Hemogram

Description

The Hemogram Test (also known as a Complete Blood Count or CBC) is a routine blood test that measures the levels of different components in your blood, such as red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), platelets, hemoglobin, and hematocrit. It helps assess overall health and can detect a wide range of disorders, including anemia, infection, and many other diseases. A hemogram provides important information about your blood and can guide doctors in diagnosing conditions that affect your blood cells and immune system.

Reason for test

The Hemogram Test serves to:

  • Diagnose Anemia: The test measures hemoglobin (the protein that carries oxygen in red blood cells) and hematocrit (the percentage of blood made up of red blood cells). Low levels of these can indicate anemia, which means your body isn't getting enough oxygen.
  • Detect Infection or Inflammation: The white blood cell (WBC) count helps detect infections or inflammation. High levels of WBCs may indicate an infection or an inflammatory condition.
  • Assess Platelet Function: Platelets are responsible for blood clotting, and their count helps evaluate the body's ability to stop bleeding. Low or high platelet levels can signal bleeding disorders or clotting issues.
  • Monitor Blood Disorders: A hemogram can help diagnose or monitor blood-related disorders, such as leukemia or bone marrow diseases, by looking at abnormalities in blood cell production.
  • Evaluate Overall Health: The test gives a snapshot of overall health, helping doctors detect conditions that may not have obvious symptoms or that need further testing or treatment. The Hemogram Test is a comprehensive and essential test to evaluate your blood's health and detect a wide range of conditions, from anemia and infections to more serious blood disorders. It’s a useful tool for early detection and monitoring of your overall well-being.
